Publisher's Weekly Review

Agatha Christie meets California writers' retreat in Lora Roberts's satirical take on the publishing world, Another Fine Mess: A Bridget Montrose Mystery. Palo Alto author Bridget is looking forward to spending two weeks working on her novel at Ars Ranch near Santa Cruz, but the mix of established literati and student writers proves highly combustible and deadly. Roberts is also the author of Murder Follows the Money and five other novels in her Liz Sullivan series. (The same publisher also offers Nancy Baker Jacobs's (the Devon McDonald PI series) lively Flash Point: A Susan Kim Delancey Mystery, her first suspense novel, which introduces a California arson investigator as sleuth. Library Journal Review

Bridget Montrose, whose first novel unexpectedly topped the best-sellers list, suffers from writer's block complicated by four small children. Serendipitously, she wins a fellowship to an exclusive, oceanfront writers' retreat in California, complete with private rooms, wonderful food, and an elusive millionaire host. Her block seems to disappear, but contentious authors, murder, and suspicious detectives interfere. Then the death of the bitchy alcoholic writer in the next room challenges her sleuthing abilities. Roberts, who also pens the Liz Sullivan series, handles the classic murder-in-a-microcosm with panache, revealing snippets of surprise as various attendees compare stories. Recommended.
