Choice Review

After every election publishers contact their favorite authors and compete with each other to a produce new campaign book. Sabato (Univ. of Virginia) has prepared one of the more interesting books about the 2000 election. It is a collection of articles by academics (including Sabato), journalists, and the candidates' lawyers. It covers both the election campaign and the legal conflict that determined the winner of the 2000 election. The pieces are, by and large, both informative and entertaining. The tour of Florida politics, the analysis of the campaign, and the discussion of the media coverage are all excellent. In an attempt to be fair, however, both campaigns' legal advisers presented legal analyses that, as expected, are self-serving. What is lacking is a more complete and less biased discussion of judicial politics that produced Bush v.Gore. For general readers, lower- and upper-division undergraduates. A. D.
