Rare Book Room salesman's sample of 1883 edition : The volume is bound in pebbled brown leather, with an elaborate design stamped in black on both covers, and with dark brown calf labels in the center of both covers. The title, surrounded by a ball-and-chain border, is stamped in gilt on the front cover label. The bound endpapers consists of alternative available bindings, with flaps depicting the spines. The free endpapers are marbled in dark gray, tan, and red. The top edges are gilt, and the other edges are marbled in green, white, and red. At the back of the volume are 20 unpaginated ruled pages for subscribers' entries.
