Rare Book Room 1853 edition (gift binding) : The volume is beautifully bound in brown calf, with an outer border stamped in gilt and an inner border blindstamped on both covers. The spine has the half-title stamped in gilt on a black levant label, and has five other labels with a design stamped in gilt. The endpapers are finely marbled vertically in several colors; the edges are marbled in green, tan, black, and salmon. The front cover bears a custom gilt stamp of the emblem of "Bruce's Academy." The front flyleaf bears a fine manuscript note, "Natural Philosophy Class Prize, Master Charles S. Wood, Newcastle on Tyne, June 21st 1855."
