Publisher's Weekly Review

When Santa's bag accidentally falls overboard, not even the repeated warnings of all Santa's animal friends ("Careful, Santa!") prevent an ensuing series of mishaps in Sykes's (Dora's Eggs) tale of a windy Christmas Eve. Santa soon tumbles out of the sleigh ("landing on his bottom"), slips on a frozen pond and so on. But when he can't find his little mouse helper, it's Santa's turn to sound the warning and help her to safety. Warnes's (Scaredy Mouse) chipper artwork, complete with lots of whooshy brush strokes for wind and snow, help make the most of the story. Ages 3-6. (Sept.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. School Library Journal Review

PreS-An accident-prone Santa tries to deliver his presents on Christmas Eve, but they topple off his sled and land on a snowy playground, where he has a hard time gathering them all back up. Young children will likely be attracted to this cuddly Santa and his endearing cat and mouse sidekicks, but the illustrations are rather static and unexciting considering all the slipping and sliding that Santa is doing. This story is simple enough for toddlers, but the overall package is ho-ho-hum.-E. M. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
