Library Journal Review

To escape marrying a man she doesn't love, Karyn Ensinger moves from Germany to Nebraska to become Mikal Ritter's mail-order bride. Life on the prairie in the 1880s is more rustic than Karyn expected, and Mikal's pride in both his sod house and his perilous existence leaves her wondering why she left Germany. The two settle on having a marriage in name only, but Karyn begins to wish she hadn't been quite so abrupt with her handsome husband. Their mutual religious devotion eventually helps bring them together. Whitson (Sarah's Patchwork, Thomas Nelson, 1998) brings some charming characters to life in this sparkling romantic tale. Intelligent and headstrong, Karyn breathes some fresh air into the overused mail-order bride plot. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
