School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 6-The purpose of this anthology of children's music is not only to entertain and educate children, but also to benefit the Children's Heart Foundation, which researches congenital heart disease. This high-quality album is characterized by excellent vocalists and instrumentalists, as well as entertaining songs covering a variety of topics of interest to children. Musical styles include rock, folk, rap, blues, jazz, country and pop. The songwriters, performers, and educators (mostly from Chicago) who made this album possible all donated their talents. Songs and performers include: "Bounce" (Dave Rudolf); "When Cows Get Up" (Jennifer Armstrong); "Verbs" (Chuck Webb); "Becoming Friends" and "The More You Learn, the More You Grow" (Derrick Procell & Meredith Colby); "Morning Song" (Wendy Morgan & Tom Krol); "A World of Critters" (Melanie Dix & Peter Saxe); "Line Leader" (Dave Fletcher); "Building a Global Family" (Amy Lowe); "Love That You're Different" (Becca Kaufman); "Piggy Back Ride" (John Upchurch); "To Be or Not to Be" (Robin Bell); "Open the Door" (Lil' T-Bone); "Making Resolutions" (Arlo Leach & Anna Belyaev); "Charlie's Lullaby" (Stephanie Rogers); "First We Crawl" (Libby Mollman); "Mine, Mine, Mine" (Tony Rogers); "Stop the Tears" (Marshall Titus); "Love Prevails" (Kate Milan); "Can't Stop the Summer Sun" (Gerry O'Keefe); "Oochie Coochie Fling" (Crazy Curt & the Fireballs); "Music for the Heart" (Kathie Mills); and "Fools Will Try" (Ralph Covert). A nicely done album for a good cause.-Beverly Bixler, San Antonio Public Library, TX (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
