Reviews 1

School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 3-Lovely color photographs and an informative text document the Christmas season in Oaxaca, starting with the Fiesta of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12 and ending with the Day of the Three Kings on January 6. Along the way, readers learn about Las Posadas (reenactments of Mary and Joseph's search for an inn), nacimientos (manger scenes), an amazing custom of carving elaborate figures out of radishes, and much more. The photos, featuring families in their homes and communities, are bordered with bright designs, as are many of the pages. A glossary of the Spanish words in the text with pronunciation guide and a recipe for bu-uelos are appended. This fun and informative book should find a wide readership.-E. M. (c) Copyright 2010.
