Summary

Summary

Inventing America is the first new departure among general histories of America in twenty years. Written by four of our best historians, this book enlarges the house of American history by inviting in a new element -- technology and science. The authors achieve this integration through the theme of innovation, tracing the impulse to make it new as it has found expression in American culture, politics, society, and the economy.
