School Library Journal Review

Gr 6-12-Students are introduced to the way adjectives and adverbs are used in the Spanish language. In the introduction, objectives are presented so that viewers understand what will be covered in the video. The first part introduces and defines the use of adjectives with examples given. Vocabulary words are spoken by the narrator, and the written equivalent in both Spanish and English appear onscreen. Shot on-location in Spain and South America, viewers also get glimpses of actual Spanish people and places. The second part of the program deals with adverbs, and they are handled in the same manner as the lesson on adjectives. This type of presentation is an excellent way for students to learn, because teachers can pause the video so students may take notes and practice verbalizing what has been presented. In an interactive quiz at the end of the video, students are given a fill-in-the-blank sentence and have to choose from two options. The video can be paused for students to say or write their answer. The narrator then gives the correct response with a brief explanation. An excellent tool for beginning Spanish classes, it also can be used as review for more advanced students.-Mercedes Smith, Bishop Kenny High School, Jacksonville, FL (c) Copyright 2010.
