1839 edition: The printer's imprint is at the bottom of the title page. The volume is bound in dark brown morocco over boards, with a pattern of large "X"s of six diagonal rules each embossed on both covers. The half-title is stamped in gilt on the front cover, and the year is stamped in gilt on the spine. The front bound endpaper bears the ownership sticker, "Julia Ditto Young, 391 Lafayette Avenue, Buffalo, N.Y., U.S.A." The front free endpaper bears the manuscript gift note, "Florence May Morrison, 1878, from James C. Tate" ; its back side bears the bookplate of Julia Ditto Young, accompanied by a manuscript note on the following flyleaf, "Bookplate inserted April 10th, 1907, St. Fulbert's Day, by J.D.Y." The same flyleaf also bears the manuscript ownership note, "Eliza H. Rochester, Buffalo," which also appears at the top of the title page. The next flyleaf bears the manuscript note, "Purchased in a pawn shop on Exchange Street by Robert D. Young, 1880. Julia Ditto Young, 1894, 1904."
