Summary

Summary

What's the difference between a turkey and an owl? A turkey doesn't give a hoot. Do you like plucky puns? Do you have a fowl sense of humor? Well, fluff up your feathers and get ready for fun. Turkey Riddles, the sixteenth book in Katy Hall and Lisa Eisenberg's best-selling series, is stuffed with jokes and riddles that kids will gobble up. Find out what you'd get if you crossed a turkey with an octopus. Discover why Tom Turkey climbed into the vegetable bowl. To help you guess the answers, Kristin Sorra's illustrations provide hilarious clues.

Booklist Review

Gr. 1-3. Riddles are always a great way to have fun and encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book. In this holiday-themed roundup, there are more than 30 groaners, one per page, each accompanied by a painting that gives a few clues, and the answer. Some of the riddles are too obscure for the audience: "What do you call a gobbler in a flowered shirt, plaid shorts, and a beanie? (A real turkey!)." But the majority are right on target: "What did the sweet potato say to the turkey? ("Here I yam)." The art, with cross-hatched details, is bright and appealing. Not a must purchase, but still great for a good time alone, with friends, or even in a classroom. --Stephanie Zvirin
