1846 New York edition: 15.7 x 10.8 cm. The volume is bound in brown cloth, with the series and an elaborate border blindstamped on both covers. The spine has the title, author, and vine design stamped in gilt. The endpapers and text pages are of plain white rag paper; the front bound endpaper bears a small sticker in its lower right corner, "Lockwoods, 411 Broadway, New-York." The front free endpaper bears the manuscript ownership note, "E. Gelston, New-York, Oct. 9, 1849." The title page has the title, author, publisher, and date and place of publication.
