This recording joins a bevy of other recent releases claiming to provide "nourishment for the mind." However, this CD is unique in that it tailors the music to its target audience of toddlers by providing bite-sized chunks of classical pieces, designed to fit the young child's attention span. The music is divided into three sections. "Wake Up" features sprightly tunes such as "Country Dance" and "Overture to Magic Flute." "Play Time" consists of livelier tunes such as "March" from The Marriage of Figaro. The last section, "Sleepy Time," focuses on lovely arrangements of somnolent melodies such as "Serenade"

School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 2 Singer-songwriter Susan Berg McNelis, better known as Oh Susannah!, brings new life to old favorites on this lively recording. From the pulsating rhythms of her "Wheels on the Bus" and "If You're Happy and You Know It," to the rock `n-roll style "Rockabye Baby," these are songs that the whole family can enjoy anew. The juxtaposition of old and new is often clever, as in "Oh My Dinos," which borrows its tune from "Clementine" ("In a cavern, in a canyon/ a paleontologist collects/ fossil bones of Stegosaurus and/ Tyrannosaurus Rex.") There are a few completely original tunes as well, including the title track, and "All Fall Down," a lovely ballad that may be most appreciated by adults. Perhaps the oddest selection is the "Macaroni Medley," which combines several favorite songs such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Yankee Doodle," and then veers into "The Macarena." This strange mixture will no doubt find fans, however, and children's librarians will be delighted to find these new versions of storytime favorites. A fun recording for the whole family.-Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
