Rare Book Room first American edition: 28.7 x 23.6 cm. The printer's imprint is absent. The volume is bound in full red morocco; rebacked.The endpapers are marbled in brown, orange, dark blue, and light blue. The binder's mark, "BOUND BY HAMMOND," is in the red morocco border at the bottom of the front bound endpaper, which also bears an engraved bookplate of Edward Hugh Sothern and Julia Marlowe Sothern. The frontispiece is a photo lithograph in color of King Richard II of England. The text pages are of white machined paper, with many engraved illustrations; all edges are gilt.
