1854 edition: 19.6 x 12.6 cm. The printer's imprint, "Stereotyped by C. C. Savage, 13 Chambers Street, N.Y.," is in a colophon at the bottom of the title page verso. The volume is bound in printed tan boards, with the full title, author, publisher (Phelps, Fanning, & Co.), and date (1853) and place of publication; the back cover has both sides of the Great Seal of the United States; the spine is almost entirely missing. The title page is identical to the front cover, except for a different publisher (Ensign, Bridgman, & Fanning) and date (1854); its verso contains copyright data and an advertisement for a German-language edition of the book. The text pages are of plain white rag paper, now somewhat foxed.
