Summary

Summary

The 52-volume World Almanac Library of the States is the most up-to-date state set available, and it's the one School Library Journal calls more complete than its competitors. In addition to an in-depth factual profile of each state, every book offers fascinating and lively discussions of the state's history, people, geography, government, economy, culture, and lifestyles. Each title also includes a section on Notable People, a calendar of events, full-color photos, maps, charts, graphs, time lines and other tools to make this unquestionably the best young adult reference set available.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8-These titles use an "almanac" style to outline each state's history, people, land, economy, politics and government, and culture, etc. The books open with a page of "Fast Facts," including population statistics and the state motto, song, tree, flower, fruit, etc. A section of brief biographical sketches of famous native sons and daughters is appended along with a spread on events and attractions. The busy layouts throughout feature numerous sidebars, multicolored headings and captions, full-color photos, graphs, illustrations, and maps. Each chapter opens with a cited quote from a famous person from the state. While these dry texts provide compact sources of straight facts, titles in the "America the Beautiful" series (Children's) are far superior.
