1864 edition: 14.9 x 12.5 cm. The volume is bound in brown cloth over boards, with a blindstamped design on both covers; the spine is stamped in gilt with the title and series as part of a design. The endpapers are of plain yellow paper; the front free endpaper bears the presentation note, "Lizzie F. Castle, From Uncle Geo. & Aunt Maggie, Christmas 1863." The frontispiece is a woodcut illustration, of which there are many, and most of them full-paged. The text pages are of plain white paper in excellent condition.
