15 x 9.3 cm. The printer's imprint is at the bottom of the title page. The volume is quarter-bound in light brown morocco over boards marbled in green, dark green, and tan. The spine has the half-title, "DEAF AND DUMB" (now nearly obliterated), stamped in gilt; both covers are blank. The endpapers, like the text pages, are of plain white laid paper; the front free endpaper bears the ownership note in blue ink, "George Ranks. Book bought at R. D. Ensign April the 26th 1848 Montgomery Twp. Indiana Co. Pa."
