The volume is bound in brown suede, now somewhat crumbling with age, especially on the spine, which is badly mutilated at its top and bottom and has come loose from the signatures. The title, author, and illustrator are stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine; the spine also has the publisher, and the front cover also has a blindstamped illustration of Peter riding a goat. The endpapers and flyleaves are of the same greenish-brown machined paper as those carrying the tipped-in color plates, and all are now somewhat brittle. The title page has the title, author, illustrator, publisher, edition number, date and place of publication, and an illustration similar to that of the front cover; its verso contains copyright data.
