Summary:
Odell originally wrote the poem "The American Times" for the New York Royal Gazzette in 1780 under the pseudonym of Camillo Querno (Joseph Stansbury, The Loyal Verses of Joseph Stansbury and Doctor Jonathan Odell, 1860). This manuscript may have been copied from the newspaper original; it bears the date 1796, but in a different hand from that of the text.

Manuscript: 20 x 16.2 cm. The item is stitched by thread in coarse brown paper, of which the back cover is missing, and the front cover bears the letters "N" and "M" and the date 1796, all in manuscript in black ink. The title and text pages are handwritten in black ink on plain white laid paper, now somewhat yellowed. The item is protected by a portfolio of red cloth over boards, with two half-sized flaps of the same cloth attached to the top and bottom inside, and a full-sized flap attached to the outside edge; the portfolio is closed through metal-rimmed holes with a black shoestring. The portfolio spine has the title and the date 1794 stamped in gilt running from bottom to top.
