First edition: [A]-I⁸ K-U⁸ X⁸; [i]-viii,[1]-64 65-152 153-[156]+2 flyleaves; 16.6 x 10.6 cm. The printer's imprint, "PRINTED AT THE CHISWICK PRESS, TOOKS COURT, CHANCERY LANE," is at the bottom of the title page; another imprint, "CHISWICK PRESS:--C. WHITTINGHAM AND CO., TOOKS COURT, CHANCERY LANE," is a colophon on p. [156]. The volume is bound in olive green cloth over boards with bevelled edges, and with the half-title stamped in gilt on the front cover and on the spine. The spine title gilt is badly faded, and the spine bears a sticker with a Dewey decimal number printed in black ink. The endpapers, flyleaves, and text pages are of the same plain white untrimmed rag paper watermarked "D & Co" ; their top edges are gilt. The left front endpapers bears the ownership sticker of the Buffalo [N.Y.] Library. One of the front flyleaves bears the stamp, "A Gift to The Buffalo Library, from," and the words, "The Author", handwritten in black ink. The frontispiece is an engraving of a sphere marked with lines of latitude and longitude within a larger sphere marked with different lines, along with a poetry quotation from John Milton. The title page has the full title, author credit, publisher/printer, and date and place of publication, and bears the handstamp, "The Buffalo Library. JAN 3 1893."
