The ledger is bound in green cloth over boards, carries the title "RECORD" on its front cover and spine, is printed by Dennison Stationery Products Co., Framingham, MA, and all its pages (304) are numbered and ruled (1/4 in.) in blue ink. The title and author are written and printd in black ink on the front cover. The spine bears the hand-printed title, "SMOKES CR. SITE, ERIE CO.," in black ink. The right front endpaper has the author's business card affixed by adhesive tape. The text consists of handwritten entries in black ink of items found at the Smokes Creek and Kleis archaeological sites, and stops on page 94.
