Reviews 1

Choice Review

The 22nd edition of this annual consists of reviews of 520 works suited for medium and smaller libraries drawn from the 2002 edition of American Reference Books Annual. The reviews deal with such useful sources as atlases, biographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and yearbooks, in both electronic and printed formats. Letter codes indicate the type of library in which each source would be most useful. Entries cover a single year's publications (although some works are standards) and are arranged according to Library of Congress subject headings, followed by indexes of subjects and authors and titles. The reviews describe the title, state its purpose and depth of coverage, often compare it to similar works, and in many cases cite other reviews. The publishers might enroll more school librarians as reviewers, since they have the best knowledge of sources useful in school libraries. Helpful to book selectors in small and medium libraries in creating or updating reference collections. D. J. Turner Auraria Library
