First American edition: Vol. 1: [0]⁴ 1⁸ 2-21¹²; Vol. 2: [1]⁸ 2-22¹² 23⁸; Vol. 1: [i-iv] 5-12 13-248+2 flyleaves; Vol. 2: 2 flyleaves+[1]-4 5-256 257-260+2 flyleaves; 17.8 x 11.2 cm. The printer's imprint is absent. Both volumes are bound in brown marbled calf, with the title stamped in gilt in red morocco on the spine, and the volume number and double horizontal rules stamped in gilt on the spine; both covers are blank. The endpapers, flyleaves, and text pages are of plain white laid paper. In the upper right corner of the right front endpaper both volumes bear the sticker, "P. SHELDON, Bookbinder, GARDINER, (ME.)." The title page of Vol. 1 and the right front endpaper of Vol. 2 bear the ownership note, "Joshua Wingate, Book," and Vol. 2 adds the date, "1821." The title pages of both volumes have the title, author, quote from Scott's poetry, volume number, publisher, and date and place of publication. Both title page versos are blank.
