The volume is bound in brown levant stamped in gilt over wood, with the title, "Holy Bible," enclosed in a cruciform beveled inset on the front and back covers; the spine is missing. The whole volume closes with two large brass clasps on the right-hand side ; all edges are gilt. The endpapers are of white satin. There are two frontispieces ahead of the title pages: on the left, an engraving by R. Whitechurch depicting Moses and the Ten Commandments, and on the righ, a full-color engraving of the Ten Commandments and of the Great Commandments of Jesus. The title page is in black and red ink, with title, contributors, engraved emblem, publisher, and date and place of publication. The title page verso has an engraved notice of an award for the volume from the American Institute. The text includes introductory essays, a Biblical dictionary, a large section of engravings of Biblical scenes, the books of the Apocrypha, a chronological index, and a concordance. The Rare Book Room's copy has inserted inside the back cover the title page and an engraving from a Bible published in Troy, N.Y. in 1848.
