After suffering a heartbreaking loss, soft-spoken teacher Crystal Dupree is determined to end her marriage to Richard, who seems to love his work more than he loves her. Even when he persuades her to give their union three more months, she's convinced that nothing can bring back the sweet fiery romance they once shared - or their hopes for the future. But amid some surprising revelations, and some hard truths, Crystal and Richard might just reach an understanding...and strike a bargain of the heart that could rekindle their love.

Booklist Review

Literacy volunteer Crystal Dupree's miscarriage isn't the reason her marriage to Richard is breaking up, but it has added one more strain to an already faltering relationship. Convinced that Richard is more dedicated to his work than he is to her, Crystal asks for a divorce. But Richard, always the attorney, makes her a bargain--give him three more months, and if she still wants a divorce, she can have it. In-depth characterization, a mystery, and a nice subplot involving the romance of an older couple add to the appeal of this book. By making the quest to achieve literacy a major theme in her eighth novel, Virginia author Poarch raises an important and sensitive issue, and puts the feel-good genre of romance to particularly good use. Libraries will definitely want to add this well-written and unusual tale to their collections. Shelley Mosley.
