Summary

Summary

Each book in this series introduces a different category of fast and powerful machines--aircraft, boats, motorcycles, trains, trucks, and cars. Simple text describes each vehicle's history, equipment, and flashiest features, and dazzling full-color photographs take readers inside the action-packed world of high-speed motorsports. This action-filled guide to monster trucks puts readers in the driver's seat of some of the most amazing trucks in the world. Weighing thousands of pounds and standing over 10 feet high, these massive vehicles have thrilled race fans with their explosive speed and crushing power.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-7 Wildly busy pages present text on boldly colored backgrounds accompanied by screaming-yellow "Stat File" inserts and fire-engine-red "Fact File" boxes, all superimposed on large photos of monster trucks in roaring action or NASCAR racing. The texts themselves are simple to read and brief enough to lure reluctant readers into taking a chance, and the lively presentation of factoids and racing history should keep them involved. A glossary of technical terms and sport-specific lingo; some racing organization names, addresses, and Web and e-mail addresses; and an index round out the presentations. While not first-purchase considerations, these glitzy entries may spruce up aging 796.2 sections (though true aficionados will be glued to ESPN, or at the track happily inhaling the intoxicating aroma of hot engine exhaust). -Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010.
