Booklist Review

Gr. 8^-12. Including Teen Dads (which is slated for revision in 1999), the volumes in the Teens Parenting series were in the vanguard of books acknowledging teens' feelings about being young parents and addressing teen's specific parenting concerns. These new editions are nicely done. Although the earlier books were not available for close examination in all cases, the books maintain their mix of practical, earnest advice on the one hand and wide-ranging comments from young adults on the other. The texts have been rewritten in some instances, some new quotes have been added, and a few content changes are noticeable. In Your Pregnancy and Newborn Journey, for example, the authors have included a section concerning babies with special needs and information about Depo-Provera. The chapter on three-generation living has been dropped as well. The new jackets on the books are attractive and colorful, though with less emotional appeal than the ones used on earlier books, thanks to a focus on graphic art rather than photos. Add these books to the collection if you don't have them; purchase them as replacements if the earlier editions have been well used. --Stephanie Zvirin
