Library Journal Review

How do you keep kids interested during practice? How can you maximize their baseball skills? When are children ready for specific baseball-related challenges? These are among the questions that are clearly answered in this instructional book by Baker, an instructor at Worcester State College and head coach of the school's baseball team. Writing especially for coaches, Baker describes and diagrams over 150 baseball games and activities for elementary-age children. Various chapters cover running a baseball camp, base running, bunting, catching, fielding, hitting, throwing, and pitching. The specific activities (e.g., "Hole in One," "Move It") are subdivided according to age appropriateness, object of the activity, equipment needs, and rules. Dirk's short, informative book will please its intended audience and is recommended for large public libraries and specialized collections in physical education.
