Each day, investors all over the world use the Internet to locate critical financial data that will lead to major decisions on issues of concern to industry and government. This international guide, containing information about more than 3000 Web sites, and covering 216 countries, regions, and territories, responds to the challenge of quickly identifying the needed intelligence. Divided into six sections, the first part of the book offers global finance and investment resources and services, such as international trade associations, corporate and industry information, stock exchanges, market indices, research tools, and business and financial news. The next five sections provide, for specific countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Europe, a broad spectrum of Internet resources, including investment in stocks, bonds, and futures; banking; insurance; real estate; taxation; investment and securities law; trade regulations; and so much more. Three indexes assist with access.

Booklist Review

Because of the tremendous array of resources on the Internet today, professors Jiao and Liu intend to save investors time by helping them find relevant sources to increase their financial opportunities in a global environment. Covering 216 countries, regions, and territories and listing more than 3,000 Web sites, this work is organized into six main sections. The first section, "Global Finance and Investment Resources," arranges Web sites under subject areas like "International Trade Associations" and "Emerging Market Resources." The rest of the volume is arranged by continent. For each, a section on "General Finance and Investment Resources" is followed by an alphabetical country list with the best sites specific to each country. The Web resources include sites on real estate, taxation, government agencies, trade regulations, country profiles, privatization programs, and business, personal, public, or corporate finance. Under each country, sites are grouped under four categories: "Government Agency," "Stock Exchange," "Business and Investment Sites," and "Business and Financial/Economic News." Each entry includes the title, URL, and a descriptive paragraph highlighting the content of the site. Most sites are free, in English, and were last checked in September 2000. Three indexes complete the volume: an alphabetical Web site index, a country index, and a huge subject index. Most business collections will want to add this timely, easy-to-use resource. Buy two copies, one for reference and one to circulate.

Choice Review

Jiao, economics librarian, and Liu, finance librarian (both at Baruch College of the City University of New York) have compiled more than 3,000 sites covering 216 countries, regions, and territories. It is a companion to Liu's Internet Resources and Services for International Business: A Global Guide (CH, Feb'99) and is very similar in arrangement. Following a brief section of global resources, entries are numbered and arranged alphabetically by country within continent. Sites for each country are grouped by subtopic: Government Agency, Stock Exchange, Business and Investment Sites, and Financial/Economic News. This arrangement leads to duplication of listings for sites that cover more than one country (e.g., ) but is convenient for users seeking information about a single country. Since entries are arranged by country, the country index is of slight help, but the very detailed subject index is most helpful. All index entries refer to item numbers. Access to most resources is free, although some require registration or subscription. Recommended for any collection serving businesses or students interested in international business. K. M.
