Summary

Summary

New edition of a three-volume resource that represents the combination of two databases--Thomas Food Industry Register (TFIR) and Food and Beverage Market Place (FMP) and Food and Beverage Market Place-Suppliers Edition. Volume I begins with a product category list and a listing of products and manufacturers with phone numbers, followed by food and beverage manufacturer listings with complete contact information and data concerning the company. Volume II contains information on equipment, supplies and services; transportation firms; warehouse companies; and wholesalers and distributors. Volume III comprises broker companies, importers and exporters, consumer food and beverage catalogs, and industry resources. Fifteen indexes are specific to individual chapters and are arranged by either geographic region or product type. Two others, All Brands and All Companies, cover all three volumes. c. Choice Review

Grey House acquired Thomas Food Industry Register (1991-98) and combined it with their own Food and Beverage Market Place (CH, May'96) and Food and Beverage Market Place Suppliers Guide (1999-2000) to produce this version, whose three volumes contain more than 8,000 pages and 40,000 entries. Volume 1 lists food and beverage manufacturers first by product category, then alphabetically by company. A product index is included at the beginning of the volume and a brand name and ethnic food index at the end. Volume 2 lists equipment, supplies and services companies, transportation firms, warehouse companies, and wholesalers and distributors. Six indexes for this volume include brand name, transportation type, and warehouse region. Volume 3 lists brokers, importers and exporters, companies that provide catalogs, and industry resources such as associations, journals, directories and trade shows. Eight indexes for this volume include broker market and export and import region. This is an excellent resource, but the cost may be prohibitive for smaller libraries; the paperback binding for these hefty volumes may not survive frequent use. Recommended for academic, public, and corporate libraries. S. Marien American University
