Choice Review

For business researchers and job seekers, this almanac provides an overview of leading biotechnology firms and descriptions of emerging technology. The greater part of the work consists of individual profiles of more than 400 companies, emphasizing publicly held US firms but including a few foreign and privately held companies. Full-page profiles include type of business, product brand names, NAIC code, chief officer contact information, and Web address. Financial information is limited to total sales and profits for the past few years. Other information includes employee benefits, number of employees, and salaries for top executives. Useful narratives describe each company's growth potential, research focus, mergers/acquisitions, and other unique traits. Companies are indexed by name, subsidiaries, brand names, NAIC code, and product category. Other sections of the almanac include an overview of major technological trends in the industry, industry-wide statistics, and a career section (taken word for word from Occupational Outlook Handbook, CH, Dec'98). Much of the information presented here can be obtained from other standard sources, but the company and industry overviews make this a worthwhile addition to business and career reference collections.
