Booklist Review

After Kate Clark, a young actress in New York during the 1940s, discovers her recently deceased uncle has named her as heiress, a mysterious Gypsy gives her a mission to find an unnamed man on her upcoming journey to England and give him the message "I do not find the Hanged Man." Aboard the ship, a woman is murdered and Kate becomes enmeshed in a transcontinental investigation. She unites with her uncle's family; falls in and out of love with romantic, strange men in many guises; and uncovers a ring of Nazi thieves. Her situation becomes more dangerous the more she learns, and the mystery slowly unravels on the moors of England. Kate is a plucky heroine, though her naiveteis sometimes unrealistic, and the ending unexpected. --Ellie Barta-Moran

Publisher's Weekly Review

Set in the U.S. and England in 1947, Hilda Dunn's The Hanged Man, published posthumously, tells of Kate Clark's adventures with inheritance, fortune-tellers, international intelligence, theft, murder and a rotating assortment of leading men. This fun period piece riffs off the sensibilities of 1940s mystery and comedy flicks. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
