School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-8-The six short chapters of this well-researched and well-organized history are dotted with good-quality, informative black-and-white photographs and reproductions. Origins of the game, the development of the rules, strategies, memorable moments, and colorful personalities add to this lively account. Sidebars include the first rules set down by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, golf-course etiquette, the invention of the wedge, feathering, dimpled balls, people, tours, and famous courses. This book is far more appealing in content and format than Dave Anderson's The Story of Golf (Morrow, 1998) and should be a boon to anyone interested in the sport, where it came from, and where it is going.-Janice C.
