Booklist Review

Good illustration in home improvement and maintenance sources ought to be commonplace but is not. These two guides, however, are long on good illustration and ample on explanation. The main difference between home plumbing and home electrical projects is, of course, that plumbing projects usually won't kill their practitioner, whereas one or two tactical errors in the wiring can have dire, unexpected consequences. The Better Homes and Gardens people have done their utmost to make both tactical instruction and safety warnings accessible and to comprehensively cover the issues and projects they present. From running cable in unfinished areas to rewiring lamps, from installing bath fixtures to opening clogged drains, these books provide easily understood plans, tips, and counsel. Armed with both books, do-it-yourselfers are only a serious time commitment away from having a luscious home spa complete with whirlpool and heated toilet seat. --Mike Tribby
