Gilmore's unique dictionary contains 784 brief but accurate, alphabetically arranged articles, ranging in size from three pages on "Canon" to two lines on "Divinatio." Entries cover terms ("Geniza," "Haplography," "Interpretation"), manuscripts ("Gezer Calendar," "Jeremiah Fragment," "Ras Shamra Tablets"), persons ("Campbell, Alexander," "Ignatius of Antioch," "Metzger, Bruce Manning"), and translations of the Bible ("Emphasized Bible," "Geneva Bible," "International Children's Bible"). Cross-references and a brief bibliography are included. Helpful to general readers, but scholars should consult The Cambridge History of the Bible (3v., CH, Mar'71) or similar reference works. G.
