Author Notes

Artist and author Magda Cordell McHale was born in Hungary on June 24, 1921. During World War II, she went to Palestine as a refugee and worked as a translator for British intelligence. She was one of the founding members of the Independent Group in London, which started British Pop Art in the 1950's. In the mid-1950's she showed her work at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London and at the Hanover Gallery. She later embarked on a career in futurism, an interdisciplinary field that studies global prospects for human development, with her second husband John McHale. They created Centers for Integrative Studies at numerous universities including Binghamton University and the University of Buffalo. She died on February 21, 2008.
