Droste focuses on the processes employed in the treatment of wastewater; he starts with a review of the basic biological, chemical, and physical principles of these processes and progresses through the various unit treatments for wastewater and for processing and disposal of the residues from these processes. He also presents the techniques for measuring the various contaminants associated with wastewater. The presentation of the different topics is relatively uniform; none is discussed in great depth. Other sections review principles relative to the various processes discussed later in the text. It is assumed that the reader has had introductory courses in the basic sciences. Discussion of the unit processes is limited to a general discussion of the design parameters employed. In-depth discussions of the theory of these processes are not provided, as it would be impossible to do so in one volume. In general, a balanced presentation. Upper-division undergraduates. J. T.
