Summary

Innovative and beautifully produced, this series traces the history of the New World from the arrival of Asian hunters in Alaska more than 15,000 years ago to the late 19th century. The books use authentic full-color reproductions of period maps to illustrate the fascinating story of North America. In addition to the stunning maps, each title benefits from incisive text and numerous striking color pictures that bring each period to vivid life. Each title contains a glossary, map list, chronology of landmark events, guide to further reading and index.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-7-In these beautifully illustrated titles, Stefoff explores the people and events that shaped our nation. She offers an unbiased look at how history was molded by groups and the hopes, dreams, and hard work of individuals. First Frontiers presents an overview of the move to expand and settle the North American continent. Native Americans, frontiersmen, speculators, and soldiers were involved in the unfolding panorama that was to become the U.S. The War of 1812 vividly describes the causes of the war, land and sea battles, and the end of the conflict. In both titles, facts are presented in an easy-to-read manner and sidebars provide additional information. Numerous full-color historical maps and reproductions with lengthy captions illuminate the events described. These highly visual titles will appeal to both report writers and recreational readers.-Cynde Marcen- gill, Horry County Memorial Library, Surfside Beach, SC (c) Copyright 2010.
