Library Journal Review

These two guides from Trafalgar Square's "Activity" series are intended to give potential travelers an overview of such European regions as Scandinavia, the Alps, the Mediterranean, and Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, they are only partly successful. In National Parks, a thorough description of facilities is given for each park, along with contact information, a map, and some photographs. The Walk volume includes the same information while also tracing the described walks on some maps. Although both guides are well structured, they are not sufficient travel sources, as the maps are not detailed enough, and the many photographs are muddy and often not identified. Further, it is surprising that the Walk guide omitted Chamonix, a mountainous region in France well known for its spectacular walks. A marginal purchase for public libraries.DGeorge M.
