Choice Review

In this revision and updating of The Flowering Plants and Ferns of Mt. Rainier, by George Neville Jones (1938), Biek (Tacoma Public Library) has added 79 new species to the flora; 35 species variously attributed to the park without record were deleted. A total of 871 species of ferns, gymnosperms, monocots, and dicots are included. The arrangement of the families, genera, and species is alphabetical within the major groups. Each species is described, and each family or genus is described if more than one genus or species is represented. Many excellent line drawings and a few color photographs are provided. The keys and descriptions, although brief in some cases, are designed to supply sufficient combined data for the reader to recognize the plant. Habitat and ecological information about the species is given, as well as a citation of places where the plant is known to occur. An appendix lists new species added and species deleted. Only one consequential error was noted--the family Violaceae, in general, was omitted from the key. Extensive bibliography. For the general public and park visitors. C. T. Mason Jr.; emeritus, University of Arizona
