Library Journal Review

LaLumia's philosophy is that painting from life is the great teacher. He has spent 25 years studying outdoors, and his work reflects the spontaneity and freshness of this approach. LaLumia begins with gathering essential gear for plein air painting and goes on to the nature of colorDvalue and saturation scales as well as selecting and mixing for the palette. After demonstrating techniques specific to watercolor and oil, he concludes with a valuable chapter on using photos and field sketches to bring the outdoors into the studio. LaLumia's work has been featured in national publications and in galleries from Virginia to California. A more impressive entry than Richard Taylor's Natural Watercolors: Painting from Nature Made Easy (LJ 12/98); highly recommended. (c) Copyright 2010.
