Choice Review

Wassink's book of photographs, with its map of the central Rockies area, is introduced by sections on how to use the book, observing birds, attracting birds, bird ecology, and ethics of birding. The main portion of the book consists of photographs of birds with comments on field marks and status, plus a short description of the family and habits of each bird. Suggested references, a glossary, and an index are found at the end of the book. For the most part, the bird photographs are excellent. (There is an error on p. 72 and 73, where photos of the ring-billed gull and California gull are transposed, and the lengths of both species are listed as being the same.) Recommended for public libraries in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado, the Rocky Mountain states covered in the book.-C. J. Pollard, Los Angeles Unified School District
