Library Journal Review

Bond was a "face," an actor you see over and over again in old movies and on TV but without ever knowing his name. A "graduate" of the renowned Actor's Studio, Bond was in over 120 films (including On the Waterfront and 12 Angry Men) and television shows and eight Broadway plays. As this posthumous memoir attests, Bond's biggest thrill was being in the original cast of the Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire. This isn't really an autobiography; it's a behind-the-scenes peek at the momentous theatrical occasion that was StreetcarDwith Marlon Brando, Jessica Tandy, Karl Malden, and Kim HunterDfrom the gritty viewpoint of a working actor who never had the luck to make it big. An interesting slice of life that captures the New York theater scene of the 1940s, this is perhaps too narrow for most libraries. Recommended for comprehensive library collections where there is interest in theater.DRosellen Brewer, Monterey Cty. Free Libs., Salinas, CA (c) Copyright 2010.
