Local Note:
Rare Book Room first edition: 37.8 x 28 cm. The printer's imprint, "PRINTED IN FRANCE," is at the bottom right corner of the back page of each part. Each volume is half-bound in red morocco with red cloth over boards. The spine has the half-title, author, volume number, and the number "390.1, S-3, CAB. 8," all stamped in gilt; both covers are blank. The endpapers are in a tan and gray pattern, and the left front endpaper of each volume bears the ownership sticker of the Buffalo [N.Y.] Library. There are two flyleaves front and back in both volumes, of heavy plain white paper. The title page for each volume has been pasted onto a leaf the size of the text page, and has the full title, author, publisher, place of publication, and a multicolored illustration of women in different costumes. The title page of each part has the collective title, part title, author, and a full-color illustration. The plates for each part are fully colored.
