Booklist Review

Gr. 6^-8. Packed with miscellaneous facts, this large-format guide to the millennium divides the past 1,000 years into bite-sized sections of a century or two, labeled the ages of religion, conquest, expansion, revelation, commerce, revolution, industry, and technology. Each section opens with a brief overview and some include articles on topics such as exploration or mechanization. Primarily, the book consists of a year-by-year listing of events, from 1000 to 2000. For the year 2000, the book lists scheduled events, such as "a five-month pilgrimage to Bethlehem." The double-page spreads are illustrated with colorful photos of artworks, artifacts, sites, and objects of interest. Though of limited usefulness for research, this book-length time line would be a good place to turn for questions regarding what happened in a certain year. --Carolyn Phelan
