Library Journal Review

The violent events that have occurred in schools this year are evidence of the problems facing parents of teenagers. The new edition of this guide for parents, educators, and others who work with teens provides a solid foundation for strengthening family and community bonds. The author, a specialist in parenting education, has raised five children. The popularity of previous editions of this work, created for schools in Michigan, resulted in a new version with national distribution. The book tells parents how to establish good relationships with their teenagers by providing consistent discipline, personal involvement, guidance, and academic opportunity. Open discussion of difficult subjects such as sexuality, substance abuse, and violence, as well as guidelines for safety and lifestyle help parents form bonds with their children and encourage community and school involvement. The resource lists at the end of each chapter are very useful. This book is a good addition to all parenting collections.ÄBarbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., CA (c) Copyright 2010.
