Author Notes

A Certified Craft Designer, Sylvia Landman began doing custom needlework from a home studio in 1960. She soon expanded it to a teaching studio, and by 1962 had begun teaching craft courses at California community colleges as well. Her training repertoire gradually broadened to include classes on how to sell, as well as how to make, crafts, covering such topics as entrepreneurship and time management.

Landman is the author of Crafting for Dollars: Turn Your Hobby into Serious Cash, and Make Your Quilting Pay for Itself. She also publishes a series of business reports and audiocassettes on both business and design topics such as creativity, color, design, pattern drafting, selling by mail order, and writing for the craft market. Landman's articles on the crafts business, as well as many of her own designs, have been published in more than 40 magazines, including Crafts magazine, Jewelry Crafts, Crochet World, Professional Quilter, and Piecework magazine.

Landman lives in California, where she continues to teach both at home and at community colleges; in addition, she has given lectures and workshops across the country. She is also a small-business consultant.
