Booklist Review

Applies the usual Plunkett's format to profiles of 330 "of the most vital companies in all facets of the on-line industry."

Choice Review

Following the format of other Plunkett guides, this one offers for general readers an outstanding, comprehensive analysis of e-commerce and Internet business, packed with charts, tables, and highlighted and bulleted statistics. Four preliminary chapters provide an informative introduction to trends in business-to-consumer online retailing; business-to-business connections; online financial services such as banking and trading; the personal computer market; and Internet access and domains. A fifth chapter furnishes, for example, contacts in the form of Web sites, publications, and industry data for multiple interest areas: privacy and consumer matters; education and training; and government. The largest part of the work, not intended to be all-inclusive, consists of 330 page-length, alphabetically arranged company profiles of prominent, US-based, private sector, publicly held corporations with available financial data. The usual limitations are evident: the changeable nature of such information, the rapidity of corporate mergers, and the immense scope of such business endeavors. Also included are a CD-ROM version, a glossary, a listing of industry codes, and several indexes. A welcome addition to the business literature as a source of essential, unique, well-researched, highly accessible reference material. ; Nassau Community College
